The Story of the Belt
A long time ago, when a student started to study the Martial Arts, a rope was given to them instead of a belt. After they had studied for a long time, they took a test. If they passed, the student then received a belt, a white belt. The student always kept this white belt. There were no yellow, orange, green, blue, purple or brown belts like there are today. Since the student always wore the white belt, it began to get dirty. The longer the student studied, the dirtier the belt became. After years of studying and learning about the martial arts, the student's belt became so dirty, it looked black. This is how the black belt came to represent a student who has studied and worked hard in martial arts.
